Is the Web 2.0 bubble about to burst? It seems that for the last two years we have been seeing new web start-ups every day, quite often several in a single day. Lately there seems to be talk of slowdown in the web industry. I hear that there have been layoffs in some web companies, some that were at the forefront of the web 2.0 phenomenon (reported on Jason Calacanis Blog). Now this might well be right, we are seeing a slowdown in the global economy. It is also interesting to see that some of the major players and pundits in the web 2.0 seem to be turning on each other. Now, there has always been a degree of in-fighting in the web 2.0 world, but the things that have been going on in the last two weeks have been fairly nasty. It’s even got to the stage where Scoble has decided to call it quits for a week or so.
I really hope that this is just a temporary blip and that things are going to improve. It would be a shame if this were the end of what has been a quite interesting period of web development. Actually I am pretty sure that whatever is coming next is going to be as exciting as the last two years..
