Zink is a startup company that has produced a portable printing system that can be embedded in portable devices such as mobile phones or even mp3 players. The system doesnt use ink, but instead uses a special paper with dye crystals embedded under a polymer layer. These crystals appear white until the print head heats them and activates the colour. The maximum size of the print is quite small at the moment, and is always going to be limited by the size of the device in which it is embedded.
I think Polaroid should produce a new instant camera using this technology, one that is a digital camera and captures the image onto SD card, and also gives you the option of producing an instant print. Please Polaroid, can we have a new camera?
